Hello World
/ May 19, 2026
First question for the new blog: is “Hello World” as a first post just “cliche”, or “cliche but also required”? I’m going with the latter.
Hi!
Hello! I’m Justin Koehler and this is the beginning of my personal blog. This post will mostly be about the whats and whys, and then I’ll see where things go from there in terms of less-meta content.
I’ve never been particularly interested in putting my writing out on the internet, but I think I’d like to try and change that. I’d like to think I’m a fairly decent writer (for an engineer) - something I credit almost entirely to my very demanding high school English department - but the only way to actually maintain that skill is to exercise it. It’s also increasingly important, in my opinion, to have places to produce and share human-authored content on this internet of 2026 and beyond, so I’m going to do my part where I can.
About the author
I’m a:
- Software developer who works primarily in dotnet on web backends
- Proud Chicago(area)an
- Fan of games of many sorts - board, card, and video
- Sci-fi/fantasy reader
- DIY and tinkering enthusiast
What to expect here
To be honest, I’m going to figure that out as I go. My assumption is that it will be a hodgepodge of topics generally focused around the “technology” area (including both projects I’ve been working on and opinions I’ve decided are worth throwing over the wall for people to read), but I also expect to veer off to other topics if things have been catching my interest. There may be my thoughts on games I’ve been playing or books I’ve been reading, writeups about physical DIY projects, or anything else that feels like longer than a Mastodon post. And if some of the other tech blogs I read are any indication, I’ll likely end up writing about the blog itself at some point.
If you’ve decided to give some of this a read, thanks - I really appreciate it.
